Basement Water Extraction

DeShano Restoration specializes in water remediation and extraction.  Our team of professionals will provide fast and friendly service in the even of a disaster.

There are a variety of reasons standing water might overwhelm your basement. Whether it be from cracks in the foundation or a rising water table, any water that has made its way into your basement must be addressed immediately.

Unaddressed water damage often leads to the growth of microbes such as mildew and mold. This problem is compounded when water makes contact with porous surfaces such as drywall and paneling which serve as a food source for mold.

Finished basements that either serve as storage for your valuables, or as an extension of your home’s living space, are especially susceptible to damage from unwanted water. In these cases, it is even more important to remove the water as quickly as possible to promote healthy living.

DeShano Restoration’s Proven Restoration Process

Over the past decade, we have worked on countless water damaged projects. Each job varies from the next, however we have found that following a proven process assists in the proper management of each project.

Our restoration process is based upon the best practices outlined by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification) in addition to our company’s commitment to value, and professionalism.

Evaluation & Water Extraction

We understand that from the moment you place your call to us, we are under the clock to restore your property. However, we first need to evaluate the extent of the damage before we can start work. Our trained technicians will arrive to your property equipped with the moisture meters and a thermal imaging camera to properly determine the extent of the damage.

It is very common for water to infiltrate under sub flooring, behind base boards and saturate insulation within exterior walls. Much of this damage might otherwise go unnoticed without the proper tools and could lead to mold growth.  This is the primary reason we go to great lengths to ensure the structure is thoroughly dried, to prevent mold growth.

Extract the standing water

Step two involves extracting any standing water that may still be present.  This can range from pumping standing water out with a trash pump to extracting water from carpet using a specialized extractor.

Place Equipment

Air movers are the most commonly used piece of equipment for drying affected structures.  Dehumidifiers are the next weapon of choice and will often be used in conjunction with air movers to dry the air that is being circulated throughout. Dehumidifiers extract water from the air and discharge it through a hose that we will ensure is placed in either a drain within your home, or in a place safely away from the exterior of your home.  The dehumidifier then blows out hot dry air further aiding in the dry out process.

As a member of the IICRC, our technicians are fully trained in the most efficient ways to setup and operate our equipment. Using the sizing guidelines for both air movers and dehumidifiers, each unit placed will help dry the affected areas.

Take Daily Readings

Throughout the drying process, we will monitor humidity in each room, as well as take direct moisture reading of the floors, walls, and sometimes even the ceiling. Accurate records allow us to identify how well the space is drying. In cases where we experience faster than expected results, we will take a few drying units off the job each day until the project is complete.

If your basement water extraction job is being paid by an insurance claim, we will submit to your adjuster the proper moisture reading records and documentation to ensure the claim is processed in an efficient manner.

Communicate Progress

During a basement water extraction project, we understand that effective communication is key to instilling confidence in our clients. Our technicians will work with you each step of the way so that you understand fully our progress during the restoration process.

Chronic Issues? Waterproofing may be the Answer

If standing water has become a major issue on your property, waterproofing may be the ideal solution. From crawl spaces to basements, waterproofing can manage the moisture around your property- preventing future moisture issues.

Different solutions include vapor barrier installation, sealing block walls, insulating crawlspaces, installing water diverting channels, and the installation of energy efficient dehumidifiers.

Since there is not a one-size fits all approach when it comes to waterproofing, we will do our best to recommend a solution that best fits your needs.
